Spar Supermarkets have been taking branding on PlayPump tank stands creating awareness of their supermarkets and at the same time their monthly rental helps to maintain the PlayPumps where they advertise.
One of their supported schools is in the dry and dusty Mpumalanga Province near Barberton.
Roundabout puts an SMS number on the tank stands to be phoned should a problem arise with the PlayPump. We got a notification that this PlayPump was not working and our team went out there in June.
The PlayPump was installed in 2010 and the cylinder needed to be replaced. Also the forcehead rubbers were wearing out and needed replacing.
At the same time other general maintenance was carried out. Once the PlayPump was working well and the children could again play on it and have clean drinking water, our maintence team moved on to other sites in Mpumalanga and the North West province.
Many of our PlayPumps have available branding opportunities in rural areas where there is no other form of advertising. Also donors can put up health messaging on two sides of the the tank stands by donating R900 per month or R10 800 per year, thus ensuring that the site is maintained and at the same time South African companies can claim SED points towards their BBBEE scorecard and get a Section 18a Tax Certificate.
