Farm School gets PlayPump
A small farm school in the Free State Province has been struggling with lack of water for many years. They currently have 56 kids, but another 50 kids have registered for 2015, making their lack of water problem even more concerning. They started a small vegetable patch to help feed the kids, but with no reliable water they could only grow a few vegetables. Now with a PlayPump they can grow more vegetables, giving the kids a healthy meal at lunch time and teach the kids how to grow vegetables. A generous organization in the United States of...

In July of this year we installed two PlayPumps in the Northern Cape When we returned last week and visited Manyeding Primary School we could hardly see the PlayPump head because of the number of kids playing on it and others were running from their classrooms to join in the fun. Manyeding Primary Schools has 351 kids and 14 educators. Before the PlayPump they had a windmill but this had been broken for a long time causing the school to struggle with their water requirements in the dry and dusty Northern Cape. Gasebonwe Jantjie...

Doug Murray, GEO of The Foschini Group, took up the bucket challenge from Ian Moir, CEO of Woolworths and got doused with water. Because of this Foschini have very generously donated R150 000 towards Roundabout Water Solutions. We cannot thank Foschini enough as this is going to make a huge difference to many children at rural schools in South Africa.

In February 2014 we visited Phatlihanyane Primary School. They had a borehole, but the windmill over the borehole had been broken for many years and the school was unable to raise the funds to put in a new pump. This meant that the school relied either on the community borehole and the kids had to walk 1 km to collect the water, or else they would have to bring water from home. Thanks to the generous support of Heather Richards and her family from Coyton in the United Kingdom we were able to give this school a PlayPump in May this year. Even...

Last month we carried out maintenance work on our PlayPumps at 21 schools and communities in Limpopo. This was possible thanks to generous support from our donors. Often it is only a leaking tap or a leak in the pipe that needs attention, but sometimes cylinders, forcehead seals and other important pieces of equipment need to be replaced. All PlayPumps need regular maintenance to ensure that they continue to be reliable and supply much needed water At Makgameng Omo Village, in Limpopo, a PlayPump was installed in February 2003, over eleven...

The first PlayPumps were first installed in 1996 and since then we have put in over 1,000 PlayPumps in South Africa. Much like a car they do need to be maintained periodically. The PlayPump is a very robust piece of equipment, and many of them are still working well, but periodically seals need replacing, cylinders need changing, pipes leak, and need attention, leaking taps need to be attended to. Each PlayPump has an individual number and an SMS number on the tank stand. Faults can be reported by SMS by the principal or community leader...
