{"id":2035,"date":"2016-04-28T09:46:06","date_gmt":"2016-04-28T09:46:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/roundaboutwatersolutions.org.za\/2016\/04\/28\/14-year-old-raises-funds-for-maintenance\/"},"modified":"2016-04-28T09:46:06","modified_gmt":"2016-04-28T09:46:06","slug":"14-year-old-raises-funds-for-maintenance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/playpumps.co.za\/index.php\/2016\/04\/28\/14-year-old-raises-funds-for-maintenance\/","title":{"rendered":"14 year old raises funds for maintenance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>14 year old Samantha Falcon of The Sacred Heart Convent, Connecticut, USA <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-1503\" src=\"https:\/\/playpumps.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/IMG_2943-e1461591188760-117x150-1.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2943\" width=\"136\" height=\"174\" data-id=\"1503\" \/>on hearing of the drought in South Africa and the desperate need for reliable clean drinking water for the rural poor decided to embark on a fund raising drive and chose to help Roundabout Water Solutions with the maintenance of their existing PlayPumps.<\/p>\n<p>Sam, whose parents were born in Johannesburg, South Africa, contacted Roundabout Water Solutions and asked how she could help, and how much she needed to raise to ensure a PlayPump would be back to working order.\u00a0 She was amazed when we told her we only needed $800 and immediately started asking family and friends to help.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1508 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/playpumps.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/DSCN1613-e1461662566425-150x107-1.jpg\" alt=\"DSCN1613\" width=\"175\" height=\"125\" data-id=\"1508\" \/>Within three months Sam had exceeded her target, which enabled us to respond immediately to a report telling us that the PlayPump at a Cr\u00e8che in the Winterveld area of the North West Province rod&#8217;s had developed leaks and needed replacing.\u00a0 This PlayPump not only provides clean drinking water to the Cr\u00e8che but also the local community in this drought striken area.\u00a0 Sam said to us &#8220;<em>Raising money for Playpumps was an enriching experience for me and it made me truly realize how lucky I am and that even though I helped provide such a simple necessity to these people, it makes such a difference in their lives.
