Clean Water and Smiles at Emfuleni Primary School

New Playpump Installation!

In September 2025, a new chapter began for Emfuleni Primary School in the lush Hazyview area of Mpumalanga Province. Thanks to the generosity of Lawrence’s Well Appeal, the school received a brand-new PlayPump® water system — bringing both clean water and joyful play to over 360 pupils and staff.

Before the installation, Emfuleni Primary relied on an unreliable electric pump that often broke down and was costly to repair. Frequent power interruptions and rising electricity costs made it increasingly difficult for the school to keep the system running — a challenge shared by many rural schools across South Africa.

The arrival of the PlayPump has changed that story. Now, with every turn of the brightly coloured roundabout, the children power a system that draws fresh, clean water straight from the ground. The PlayPump not only provides a sustainable, cost-free water supply, but also doubles as the only piece of playground equipment at the school — turning what was once a daily struggle into a source of fun, laughter, and pride.

For the children, it’s a place to play.
For the teachers, it’s one less worry.
For the community, it’s a symbol of hope and resilience.

This installation is one of many wells sponsored by Lawrence’s Well Appeal over the past twenty years, reflecting a deep and ongoing commitment to providing safe water solutions where they are needed most. Their continued partnership helps PlayPumps bring long-term change — one school, one community, and one joyful spin at a time.
